PALHEIRO GOLF CLUB
Palheiro Golf is situated in the hills to the east of Funchal, boasting fantastic views over the bay and the city.
This 18 hole, 6000 metre plus course was designed in 1993 by Cabel Robinson, and is
skillfully set within the gracious parkland of the Quinta de Palheiro
Ferreiro. Remarkable for tight fairways, fast greens, and judicious use of the beautiful trees that once covered the hillside, the course is a worthy challenge for all handicap levels.

Five par 3s increase the number of 'fun' holes over the customary four, and there are five par 5s, the longest measuring 538 meters.
Fairway contouring and bunker positions will demand accurate tee shot placement to set up the best approach to the contoured greens.
Players will benefit from the numerous tees on each hole, and generous fairway widths. Bogey golf, even par golf, is feasible for the average player.
For the best combination of holes, Palheiro is designed as a continuous 18, like St Andrew's, Sotogrande and other famous courses.
Palheiro nicely treads the fine line between a challenging medium length course enjoyable for resort golfers and a stern test of golfing skill and accuracy for expert players.
The stylish Clubhouse is in the traditional Madeiran style using local stone, red tiling and marble quarried from the Portuguese mainland. It is open throughout the year, providing a well-equipped Pro-Shop, buggy hire and an informal grill bar. The Clubhouse lies below the eighteenth green, sharing with it spectacular views over Funchal Bay.
To reduce pollution on the course the golf buggies have been substituted and now are electric instead of petrol.
